The Society is delighted to announce two new members of the editorial team for its journal, Medium Aevum. Joining Profs Corinne Saunders and Sylvia Huot are:
- Dr Stephen Mossman (Department of History, University of Manchester), who takes responsibility for Germanic languages
- Dr David Rundle (Centre for Medieval and Early Modern Studies, University of Kent), who takes responsibility for Latin, history and palaeography, and in addition is appointed as Managing Editor, overseeing the journal’s progress to publication
These appointments follow on from the untimely death, earlier this year, of Prof. Nigel Palmer, who devoted himself for over thirty years to the journal, and who was integral to its success and prestige. Prof. Palmer will be remembered in the forthcoming issue of the journal, which will be the first one to have the new editorial team on its title-page.
The President of the Society, Prof. Jane Taylor, comments:
Nigel’s editorship was inspirational: he managed Medium Aevum and its publication with ease and tact; he encouraged and nurtured younger scholars; he insisted on irreproachable scholarship. He would have been delighted, as am I, to see our new appointments, and to know that the journal is in excellent hands.
Dr Rundle adds:
It is a privilege to take on this role, though also daunting, given the reputation and significance of the journal. I am delighted to be joining the two highly experienced editors of the journal, Sylvia and Corinne, as well as Stephen, whose expertise continues the journal’s commitment to Germanic studies. I know we will work hard together to ensure that Medium Aevum continues to thrive under our stewardship.
Dr Mossman writes:
It is an honour to follow in the footsteps of Nigel Palmer with responsibility for German and Germanic languages and literature amongst the Medium Aevum editorial team. The journal’s continued support for that field is much to be welcomed given the precarious position of the subject within British academia, and I look forward to many years henceforth in its service.
